Social awareness is the ability to understand the perspectives of and empathise with others, including those from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and contexts. This includes the capacity to feel compassion for others, understand broader historical and social norms for behaviour in different settings, and recognise family, school, and community resources and supports.
Social awareness is built via diverse role model stories and empathy-focused activities. Amazing People Schools uses stories of hundreds of inspirational gamechangers from around the world, across different moments in history and from the current day.
Learning about these stories increases social awareness and empathy.
All the following role models make teaching of Amazing People Schools easier across different year groups. Each features either in a Circle Time or Discovery Lesson. Alternative historical and contemporary role models can be found on the individual strengths pages.
