Self-management is the ability to manage one’s emotions, thoughts, and behaviours effectively in different situations and to achieve goals and aspirations.
This includes the capacity to delay gratification, manage stress, and feel motivation and agency to accomplish personal and collective goals.
Self-management is developed through a focus on the Strengths of Self-regulation, including self-control, resilience, forgiveness and humility. Working through the resources and stories on the APS platform helps to develop self-management through:
• Discussing situations where strengths have been used or could be used to good effect.
• Considering strengths in the lives of others and reflections on the benefits using those strengths have brought.
All the following role models make teaching of Amazing People Schools easier across different year groups. Each features either in a Circle Time or Discovery Lesson. Alternative historical and contemporary role models can be found on the individual strengths pages.
