Welcome to EuHu’s new SEND Hub and the beginning of a work-in-progress.

In building this part of our platform, we have been speaking to as many teachers as possible to try to understand some of the areas of most concern to you.

And of course, there are so many – a lack of resources, money, time, and an ever-growing need for more help for our children and young people. Our admiration knows no bounds for the incredible job you do, often under almost impossible circumstances.

We know we cannot solve any of the problems but hope to provide support in whatever ways we can.

Areas of Need

The SEND Code of Practice (2015) sets out the range of needs children and young people might have in four broad areas:

Communication and

Interaction

Cognition and

Learning

Social Emotional and

Mental Health

Sensory and/or

Physical needs

SEND Guide

For a helpful and easily digestible overview of these 4 areas, please read our free guide, written by SEND advisor, Jill Warburton .

Help with specific difficulties

Here you will find a selection of miniature guides to offer an outline of some of the most prevalent needs. They include useful resources and signposts to further support.

The first 6 guides are available to read and/or download:

School Readiness

School readiness has been a topic raised and debated many times over the last few years, especially by educators in the Early Years, and of course this has a much wider impact than simply nursery and reception. Since the pandemic, many educators have reported a huge rise in children with extra needs as they begin their school journeys. Whether the onus should be on children to be “ready” or on schools to be more prepared to meet children where they are is another debate.

Are children less prepared to begin their school journey than ever before?

Teachers choose their favourite resources

Teaching resources for KS1 and KS2 educators

Our sensory cushions really help our children with SEND with their listening, attention and focus when sitting on the carpet. They are light and easy to carry around - children take them to assembly, PE and around the school.

Music boxes, cause and effect toys, wind-up, Jack-in-a-box etc. Motivating, anticipation toys are really helping our children to make requests.

Puppets are fantastic resources. They can be used to help the children to open up. Using a diverse range of human puppets means a child can form an attachment to a particular puppet.
