Who Am I?

Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr., better known as Stormzy, didn’t come from a musical family, but at an early age, he knew he wanted to be a rapper. He describes himself as a naughty child, but despite often getting into trouble at school, Stormzy was a good student and considered attending Oxford. He took the UK underground music scene literally by ‘storm’ and has become well-known not only as a rapper but also as a singer and songwriter.

What Am I Known For?

He won Best Grime Act at the 2014 & 2015 MOBO Awards and headlined at the 2019 Glastonbury Festival. He is outspoken, and his controversial comments have upset people in power. But Stormzy is not afraid to speak out for what he believes in. Stormzy advocates for human rights and pledged to donate GB £1 million every year for ten years to organisations that support the fight for racial equality and justice for Black people in the United Kingdom. His generosity also funded the tuition costs for some students via the ‘Stormzy Scholarship for Black UK Students’ at the University of Cambridge.
